With over 36 years of experience, I write about science in a way that makes complex ideas understandable. My work has appeared in major outlets like New Scientist, Science, Nature, Popular Science, American Scientist, and The Guardian. I’ve won several awards for my writing, websites, and photography.

I started in science communication in the late 1980s, working as a scientific editor, and then began covering chemistry for various publications and pioneering science content online, including the first popular science webzine, Elemental Discoveries. Today, I write about a wide range of scientific topics, from chemistry to wildlife, and I also combine my love of photography with the latest research in many of my articles.

When I’m not writing, I’m a musician. I perform with a band, sing in a community choir, and compose music, run a local pub jam session, and work with the musical side of an am drams troupe. I've also collaborated on numerous music projects and have served as record producer for several artists.
