Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by a virus, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It was identified in Wuhan, China in December 2019, and in the first few weeks of 2020 spread rapidly around the world leading to a global pandemic. Our understanding of the disease and the virus that causes it are growing rapidly and treatments and vaccines are becoming available. Sciencebase is providing some information on the disease.
